The liturgy of the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A) calls us to conversion and to consistency in doing good.
Ezekiel warns: if the righteous turn away from their virtue, they are destined for death; conversely, the repentant sinner shall have life.
The Gospel parable serves as a powerful reminder to the Pharisees of both yesterday and today—to those whose actions do not match their words, or to those who start with good intentions but fail to carry out good deeds. It is deeds, not words, that matter before the Lord.
Saint Paul provides an example of this by urging us toward charity: unity of spirit, an absence of rivalry, and great humility.
Let us pray that the Spirit makes us docile to the Lord’s Word and grants us the same sentiments found in Jesus Christ.
