The liturgy of the Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time reminds us that the cross is inescapable from the Christian life.
Jesus speaks openly of his passion and has words of rebuke for Peter who would dissuade him. Following the Master involves the cross. The salvation of the soul, which is the most important thing, does not consist in keeping one’s life closed in one’s own selfishness, but rather in generously opening it to the service of God and our brothers and sisters.
This requires sacrifice, but for the Christian, it is also the path to resurrection.
Let us pray to the Lord to enable us to show sincere love in offering ourselves to God, in transforming our mindset, and in fulfilling the divine will.
