In the Name of the Archangel and John Paul II

The solemn Eucharist on Sunday, September 27, served as a “prelude to the Feast”—an event marked by the names of the Archangel and John Paul II.

The presence of Monsignor Domenico D’Ambrosio effectively inaugurated the period of celebrations in honor of Saint Michael.

In his homily, the Archbishop—formerly the shepherd of the Siponto-Gargano diocese—recalled how his devotion to the Prince of the Angels stemmed from his mother, a “woman of great faith who made the pilgrimage on foot from Peschici to Monte Sant’Angelo on several occasions.”

The prelate also emphasized the importance of the bond he shared with Pope Wojtyla. This reference was not coincidental, as the celebration included a significant liturgical moment: the blessing of a painting depicting the Polish Pontiff himself.

The artwork, created by Maria Teresita Ferrari Donadei, portrays the Pope—who led the earthly Church for nearly 27 years—as he arrives in the Heavenly Church, welcomed by Saint Michael, the angels, and the Virgin Mary.

After explaining the inspiration behind the work and its thematic content, the artist presented the painting to the Basilica, handing it over to the rector, Fr. Ladislao Suchy.
